Springtime is for Nesting

This is an active time of year for making the next generation, and Pied-Billed Grebes are particularly active this month. In fact, there are already some chicks in the pond. But this post isn't about the chicks, it's about the eggs from whence they come.

Eggs are delicious to many other animals. So, the Grebes try to hide their eggs well. This image shows an egg that is like a needle in a haystack. I know where it is, and it's still hard to find each time. Still, for the bird's sake, hopefully there are no racoons reading this blog entry!

If none find this nest, there will probably be more chicks in the pond in May.
